What I learned this week 01/21/2011

  • Another way to think of integration....like the added "infusion" as sometimes the jump between Adaptation and Trans. was too big.

  • Don't get me wrong....I love date....but I am starting to attend meetings about students learning needs that focus only the numbers and not the person.  Raising a number doesn't always equate to learning especially when it comes to fluency or some other measure that is meant to indicate a certain skill level....it is not THE skill.

Be sure to check these out. A group of teachers who have made 50 videos related to historical content and set to current music. Well done!

Is this what happens to our kids coming to school?

Movie Videos & Movie Scenes at MOVIECLIPS.com

One of my favorite scenes from one of my favorite movies and I'm not even really a baseball fan.

Today's students are living in the future while they must go back to the past when they come to school. Prensky refers to it as powering down.

Basically it is the idea that students have access to more technology at home than they do at school.

What the real problem to me is that some students want to bring some of these same tools to school yet we won't let them. Our district as well as I'm guessing most districts will not allow a student to access the wireless signal of the district.

As technology becomes more and more pervasive more and more students have their own laptops/netbooks. Parents buy them with the intention of the student using those same tools for learning yet we as schools do not allow the students in the building with their new learning tools.

When will this change?

Zemanta

Carnegie Mellon University Masters in Software...Image via WikipediaDemoing a new tool called Zemanta. Perhaps a useful tool for me to use on this blog.

So far for this very short post Zemanta has made on recommendation and that is for its own site.

I'll have to stick with it for awhile and see what it comes up with.
